Why not come to Southport on Australia’s magnificent Gold Coast for your next holiday. Southport lies towards the northern end of the Gold Coast and is the place where the Nerang River system flows into the Southport Broadwater creating a huge estuary system. This estuary has access to the open ocean via the Southport Seaway and the famous Jumpinpin bar. It is an aquatic paradise and the boating and fishing here is second to none. Southport also has a magnificent surfing beach and the breaks created by the seawalls either side of the seaway are extremely popular with the local surfing community. At the southern end of the Southport Broadwater is a massive complex of marina’s and waterfront cafes, Gold Coast accommodation and restaurants. The Marina Mirage shopping center is also located here.
On the inshore side of the Broadwater is the Southport CBD which houses the largest commercial and shopping center on the Gold Coast. North of this commercial area is a large number of waterfront hotels and apartment resorts. These are very popular with families as the water frontage here is on calm water which is great for the kids. Waterskiing and jet skiing are both popular and many families bring their own boat as well.
The Southport Spit is the region on the ocean side of the Broadwater between it and the ocean beach. It runs north from Main Beach to the Southport Seaway. This is the place to find the best accommodation on the entire Gold Coast. The Sheraton Mirage resort is here and is right on the main beach front. Palazzo Versace is across the road and it is the only six star hotel in Australia. With the marina’s and the restaurants and shopping next door, it is a fantastic place to stay.
Also on the spit is the fabulous Seaworld theme park. It has its own accommodation resort, known as the Seaworld resort and accommodation and park entry packages are available. The theme park is one of the best in the world. It has three main attractions. The first is the marine park where you can see the dolphin displays, seals, shark pool and many others. The second is the adventure park section with all the roller coaster and other thrill rides and the third is the fantastic water park with its amazing slides and swimming pools. You could spend several days at Seaworld with your kids and never be bored.
Southport provides so much holiday infrastructure that you need never go to any other part of the Gold Coast.
